Gold Coast Dub Club
Show and Shine 11 November 2007
Why is it that every time the faithful gather for the annual Gold Coast Dub Club Show so do the clouds? The morning showers appeared to keep a few folk tucked up home safe and dry, as numbers were a little lower than previous years. However the showers came and went and for most of the day it remained clear.
A few of us gathered together to cruise up to the Riviera complex in Coomera. In our line up that travelled up the Pacific Hwy was Kurt and Gunter in the Green Machine, myself (Christine) in the Orange Manx, John and Rebecca in the Blue MaxFX, Dave in his rat splitty.
The afternoon before posed the difficult question: ‘to work’ by washing and shining or ‘to play’ in the mud and make dirty. Kurt chose the ‘to play’ option and headed down to his bottom paddock. With recent rain there were a few puddles and wet tracks to have a bit of a play around. Kurt threw the Green buggy into a few corners and demonstrated the capacity of the Locker. I’ve seen Kurt work on the Locker from the prototype up, so to see this up and working and to experience the difference in handling with and without I was amazed and just smiling from ear to ear. (if you want to know more about the difference a Locker could make to your buggy talk to Kurt).
After a few fun corners and quite a few donuts in the mud the buggy was suitably ready for the show.
This year’s show saw around 8 buggies make the journey, a stack of kombis looking fantastic and as always a very good showing of beetles, especially the early models. I must say these early models turning out with roof racks and the old eskies and such stacked on top really look the part.
A day like this represents as much about the love of the classic cars as it does the love of the lifestyle. For me there is nothing better than getting together with other buggies and going for a cruise.
So we all enjoyed a great day once again, we were happy to go home with a few trophies as well:
Favourite Offroad: Kurt Green Buggy (must have been the extra mud)
Favourite Buggy: Christine & Tracey Orange Buggy
Favourite Buggy Runner-up: John and Rebecca Blue MaxFX
Best Displayed Vehicle: Dave Rat Splitty
