Klubfest Gold Coast 2008

June 15 Klubfest 2008, the annual pilgrimage to Parklands on the Gold Coast, the gathering of the faithful, the ceremony of the VW committed. The sun was shining and the Gods were smiling, it was a beautiful clear Gold Coast day. What a fantastic day to be out in your beach buggy.

The event was well supported again this year and even though it is only the second year it has been in operation this is proving a must do for VW lovers. I can see this event really develop into a festival of sorts if the community gets behind the ‘weekend’ concept.

There were quite a few campers who gathered on the Saturday and braved the cool night to enjoy some cool tunes from the DJ. Sunday morning gave rise to a beautiful day and as the cars began to roll through the gates you could sense this was going to be a great day.

An amazing amount of kombis showed up for Klubfest once again. Such a great assortment of vans, to satisfy the tastes of any Kombi fan. From early splitties to late model Vans it was a strong representation, with an even greater assortment of colours.

Beetles too showed up in good numbers from ratty style to highly polished numbers gleaming in the sunlight they proved to be popular with the crowd. Along with a good range of type 3’s ,Karmens,Golfs, Trikes and even a few country buggies. There didn’t seem to be many Baja’s on the menu this year but the couple that were there were certainly interesting,  especially the one with the 400-500 HP engine (expect to see this one at Warwick in October)

This leads me now to the important part of the paddock, the Beach Buggies. There was a good turn up with a few newbies joining some of the regular show goers. A couple of white manx’s that almost looked like twins sat side by side (apparently they didn’t even know each other) Kurt from Volks-Mod bought out the green Machine looking nice and shiny and he also bought along his recent find the ‘Towd’. If you do not know much about the Manx Towd keep tuned for a feature story on this rarity. Thanks to all the buggy owners who came out to play it was great to catch up with you all once again.

Christine and Tracey with their award

This years ‘show and shine’ was voted by judges with a top ten category. Christine and Tracey took out Best Beach Buggy for ‘Nemo’ their Orange Meyers Manx.  It must have been all the extra detailing. This is the second year the girls have taken home the prize in this category well done.

The organisers of Klubfest do such a great job and Parklands is a top venue for this event, all at Volks-Mod would like to pass on their thanks to Roy at the Bus Stop  and all involved in the organization of this wonderful event. If you missed out be sure to put this on your calendar for 2009!

Workshop Hours: 7am - 4pm Monday to Friday. Closed weekends & public holidays because we're out playing in our buggies!
